In
light of the recent ban on new 70cm repeaters (at the request of the primary
User of the band), the chances of getting 'NS up and running again are slim to
say the least. But you never know...
So, how can you help? Well, we obviously need to find another site for the repeater but as is the case for all 70cms boxes now, the RA will not generally allow a new or existing repeater to be sited in a densely-populated residential area for the reasons already outlined above.
However I'm told that if we can prove that interference will be negligible then we may be able to get permission for a site in a more densely populated area. Ideally though the repeater should somewhere less likely to cause problems. This could be a residential property in a remote area, building in an industrial area or a tower block/tall building where the signal will be high enough. Even better if the owner/landlord of the property is feeling generous and willing to site to repeater for free!! In recent years, since the massive increase in demand for good RF sites for commercial users this kind of animal has become most rare but I'm sure there are some around.
Ideally this site would be somewhere in North Surrey to provide similar coverage to he original repeater, but all suggestions will be gratefully received and studied with interest.
Another suggestions is the setting up of a new 2m repeater in the area. Anyone willing to help?
If you think you may be able to, please drop me a line. Thanks!
